Previously, you digitized geometries (Point/Line/Polygon) and prepared the base layers. Now it’s time to learn styling & labelling so your maps are not only accurate but also communicative.
Layer Styling
Classify colors and visual parameters based on attributes.
Map Labelling
Add text/image labels that remain legible across scales.
Appearance Customization
Adjust text, outline, colors, and styles to fit analytic context.
Data Integration or Import
Use your layer’s data as the basis for styling.
Upload or ensure your layer has attributes
Open View → map canvas
In Layer Management, click (edit)
Scroll to Layer Style → select Create a new style
Select an attribute column → define visual parameters (colors, classes, etc.)
Click Create a new color classification
In Layer Management, click (edit)
Scroll to Map Labelling → choose the label column
Adjust text size, color, and outline
Preview on the canvas → click Save
A great map is not only accurate, it must also be readable. With styling & labels, spatial data becomes instantly clear, whether highlighting flood-prone zones or mapping carbon emissions.
